2nd Forest Agribusiness Meeting

On April 27th, at the Agropecuária Majuara facilities in Ventania/PR, the 2nd Forestry Agribusiness Meeting took place, with great participation from rural producers from the cities of Tibagi, Curiúva, Castro, and Ventania.

The event was supported by the RB Group, which has over 110 years of tradition in the production and marketing of resin, rosin and its derivatives, processing more than 100,000 tons of gum rosin per year, and is recognized worldwide for its leadership in the sector.

On that occasion, participants had the opportunity to attend lectures on forestry, resin extraction, and genetically improved Pinus elliottii seedlings, which provide high yields in resin production. Representing the RB Group were Forestry Director Airton Tavares and Ester Bagietto from the Commercial Area, and the speakers Vinicius Gontijo, Research and Nursery Coordinator, and Rafaela Mayrinck, Forestry Supervisor.

Among the topics presented by the experts from the RB Group, we highlight research and genetic improvement of the Pinus elliottii species, developed since the 1980s, resulting in seedlings with high performance in resin and wood production. Currently, the RB Group markets the same genetic material used in its forests.

During the event, samples of products manufactured from resin gum were presented; the main products are rosin and turpentine, and gum base for chewing gum production. Products derived from raw pine gum are used in various products such as soft drinks, paints, varnishes, glues, waxes, solvents, as well as in the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries.

“We are very pleased to welcome this select group of farmers interested in planting pine trees for the production of resin and timber. This is a very profitable activity in the short and medium term, and can represent an extra source of income for farmers,” said Jurandir Proença Lopes, co-owner of Agropecuária Majuara.
